7 Things To Do If You Feel Stuck in Life

Posted on July 23, 2026July 23, 2026

I’m not where I want to be.

Far from it.

This is not the life I envisioned at 16.

Although I can’t say it’s a bad life, it’s definitely not my dream life. Sometimes, I feel stuck and don’t even know where to start.

Going through the motions seems to help. But at least, I’m alive right?

Right??

This was me not too long ago.

I’m not going to tell you the rut is over, but what I’m about to share stopped me from looking at life like it’s all gloom and doom.

Let’s go.

1. Stop Waiting for Your Life to Feel Different

I read somewhere that if you feel stuck, it’s because you have the power to change it.

Unfortunately, many people think change starts with motivation.

Nope, you need to be honest with yourself.

Easier said than done.

You have to admit that what you’re doing isn’t working anymore. It doesn’t matter if it’s a relationship, habit, job or that bad habit of putting everyone else’s needs before your own.

Pretending everything is fine will keep you in a limbo.

So look in the mirror and tell yourself the truth. You can’t change a life you’re still trying to convince yourself is enough.

2. Accept That You Won’t Feel Ready

I’m learning this big time and it’s helping me act on the plans I have for myself.

You won’t always feel ready.

No one does. Ever!

Successful ones know this and move anyway.

They know that waiting until you’re fearless usually means waiting forever.

See, courage isn’t the absence of fear.

It’s deciding your future deserves more than your comfort.

You don’t need to have every answer before you begin. It takes the wonder out of the discovery process anyway.

If you want to make real progress in your life, you need to understand that clarity usually arrives after the first step, not before it.

3. Stop Looking for One Big Answer

When people feel stuck, they often believe there’s one perfect decision that will fix everything.

I’m soooo guilty of this.

Maybe that’s why I kept making big plans I couldn’t finish.

Slaps head!

Well, I know better now. Life won’t change because of one dramatic moment.

It’s the little things you do everyday that add up to change your life.

If there’s one thing you’re taking from this article, it’s that you must never underestimate the power of small decisions.

They’re usually writing the story you’ll call your big win years later.

4. Ask Yourself What You’re Avoiding

Sometimes you aren’t stuck because life happened but because you’re hiding.

You’re avoiding difficult conversations so you swallow up your pain.

You don’t want rejection so you avoid sending that application.

You hate failure so you make excuses for not showing up.

At least, if you don’t try, you won’t fail right?

Look, you and I both know you’re not doing what you know you should do because you’re afraid.

Yes, fear of the wrong outcomes is stopping you from taking that big step.

And the problem is that fear is creating a wall between you and your next big opportunity.

You’ll never know who you’ll become or the opportunities you could have gotten if you embraced that discomfort.

One thing I’ve learned to ask myself when I’m avoiding a task is: “what’s the best that can happen?”

Since there’s a 50/50 chance of succeeding or failing, you might as well give it a chance.

5. Do One Thing That Your Future Self Will Thank You For

There are so many things I’m grateful I started in my teens and early 20’s: Journaling, skin care, having a morning routine.

These things keep me going especially on stressful and lazy days.

I still wish I built more good habits but I’m working on stacking healthy habits even though it feels harder now.

Still, I have solid foundations to draw inspiration from and I’m proud of myself for doing that.

If you want to change your life, start with one small area. It could be going to bed early so you can wake up early.

It could be small tweak across difficult areas of your life.

Every small promise you keep is a vote for the life of your dreams.

Only remember that momentum is built one ordinary day at a time.

6. Let Go of the Person You Thought You’d Be

You had dreams of who you’ll be by 25, 28, 35.

Personally, I thought I would be a multimillionaire with assets and businesses all over the world.

For you, maybe you thought you’d be married with two kids.

But life…

If you feel stuck because you feel disappointed in yourself, it’s okay to grieve the version you didn’t get at the time you wanted.

Then gently make room for a new one.

Listen, there’s so many memories you can make as long as you’re alive.

The future doesn’t have to look like the plan you made at twenty.

Some dreams end so better ones can begin.

7. Become Someone Who Acts Even When Uncertain

Don’t wait till you’re 100% sure of something before you act.

By the time you’re convinced, it may already be too late.

Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t think and plan.

Please count the cost before committing to anything.

But don’t allow planning stop you from taking action.

Sometimes you need a “I’ll figure it out” attitude to take on a challenge. Trust me, clarity will meet you as you move.

Even if you don’t get what you want, you’ll learn something standing still never could.

So if you want to unstuck your life, move even if it means starting over.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why do I feel stuck in life?

Feeling stuck often comes from fear, burnout, comparison, or staying in routines that no longer align with the person you’re becoming. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re failing; it often means you’re ready for change.

2. How do I stop feeling stuck in life?

Focus on one small action instead of trying to solve your entire life at once. Small, consistent steps create momentum, and momentum helps you feel unstuck.

3. How do I actually change as a person?

Real change begins with your daily habits, your mindset, and the choices you repeat consistently. You don’t become a different person overnight; you become one decision at a time.

4. Is it normal to feel lost in your twenties or thirties?

Absolutely. Many people experience seasons where they question their direction. Feeling lost doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path; it often means you’re reevaluating what truly matters.

5. Will this feeling ever go away?

Yes, but not by waiting. It begins to fade when you take action, however small. Movement creates clarity in ways that overthinking never will.
