8 Signs You Are Healing (Even If It Doesn’t Feel Like It) Posted on July 23, 2026July 23, 2026 We live in a noisy world. Someone gets a promotion and announces it. Someone loses weight and announces it. Something leaves a toxic relationship and sets up a ring light to give us a 10 part series on why they left. Before you come for me, there’s nothing wrong with sharing your wins (and issues). But when it comes to the changes that can shift your entire life from a 10 to a 100, there’s barely any noise. The signs you are healing isn’t always obvious and I understand you want to know if you’re making progress. And that’s why I wrote this for you. 1. You No Longer Need Everyone to Understand You One of the perks of healing is you realizing you don’t owe everybody an explanation. Note that I said everyone, not anybody because there are some people you must stay accountable to. You’re only accountable to those who are directly impacted by your actions and not the world. It’s not an easy transition especially if you’re someone who wants people to understand your heart. But it can be exhausting trying to do that with everyone. Some people are hell-bent on misunderstanding you even if you’re the victim. So a big sign you are healing is when you’re selective about who you speak to because you understand not everyone is truly interested in your story. 2. You Apologize Less for Taking Up Space My gender has been conditioned to shrink. We tend to apologise for everything, even the air we breathe. “Sorry for bothering you.” “Sorry for asking.” “Sorry for talking too much.” Many of us were taught to make ourselves smaller so other people could feel more comfortable. When you’re healing, you realize you don’t have to apologize for taking up the space you were created to occupy. Now you speak without apologizing first. You ask for help without feeling guilty. You say what you think without rehearsing it a hundred times in your head. You express how you want to be loved without the fear someone would leave. In short, a woman who is healing and growing is a woman who is building her self-respect quota. 3. You Walk Away Sooner I believe in giving people grace because nobody is perfect. But there’s a difference between giving grace and accepting bad behaviour. Now you bring it up when someone disrespects you without remorse. You stop carrying one-sided relationships. You leave friendships that demand you abandon your values where you could have stayed or renegotiated. You know you don’t need to compromise to fit in with anybody whereas years back, you might have stayed. Healing doesn’t make you love people less. It simply teaches you to love yourself too, and a big sign of that is you now set boundaries. 4. You No Longer Compare Yourself One of the most disrespectful things you can do to yourself is to think that someone is doing better than you. Just because good things are happening to other people doesn’t mean your life makes no sense. When you’re unhealed, you see everybody through rose-coloured lenses. You start looking down on what you have because you think the grass is greener on the other side. But the healing version of you has stopped playing the comparison game. When you see other people’s milestones, you celebrate them without questioning your worth. You’re learning that everyone’s timeline is different, and where you are now is someone’s prayer point. 5. You’re Kinder to Yourself You know you’re healing with the inner voice validates instead of condemns you. Yes you still have moments of self-doubt. We all do. But you no longer call yourself a failure because of one mistake. Now, one bad day doesn’t mean you’re back at the beginning. You speak to yourself with the same compassion you’d offer someone you love. You’re at the place where you’ve realized that the relationship you have with yourself will last forever. So when your inner voice becomes gentler, you’re healing. 6. Your Daily Habits Look Different I’m learning to appreciate the ordinary things of life. Because I’ve learnt that growth isn’t always found in dramatic moments, but in what we do on a regular day. You know you’re healing when you find yourself doing what the world calls the boring things. You’re drinking more water. Reading instead of endlessly scrolling. Taking walks. Keeping promises to yourself. These are the habits that improve you. I know this because when I stopped doing them for a while, it felt like my life had taken a downward slope. Healthy, boring habits quietly shape the woman you’re becoming. And if you’re growing, you’ll notice you’re becoming more disciplined when you do these habits. 7. You Let Yourself Feel Your Emotions I’ve been someone who would rather scroll or work long hours than sit with an uncomfortable feeling. Boxing that feeling and pretending I was fine was easier because I didn’t want to feel weak. Now I know I was only packing tension in my face and heart. I’m leaning to pause, to let a tear roll down here and there. I also pray, journal more and talk to someone. And believe me, I healed much faster than I would if I had bottled up. Feeling your feelings is a sign you’re healing. Your emotions won’t disappear because you ignored them. They simply wait and come out at the worst time. Healing begins when you stop treating your feelings like enemies, but it starts by acknowledging them in the first place. 8. You Like the Woman You’re Becoming The other day, I asked myself who I wanted to be. Somewhere, my heart whispered, “I wanted to be someone I am proud of.” It’s not as if that version I desire is perfect. She’s had good and bad days, but she looks at herself with a sense of wonder rather than regret.. And this might be the biggest sign of all. If you’re really healing, you’re becoming someone you’re proud of. You like how you’ve handled things that would have made you act out of character. You’re becoming someone your younger self admires. You’ve not arrived, but you’re more at ease with yourself. Frequently Asked Questions 1. What are the signs you’re healing emotionally? Some of the biggest signs include setting healthier boundaries, comparing yourself less, recovering more quickly from setbacks, speaking more kindly to yourself, and choosing peace over people-pleasing. 2. How do I journal for self-improvement? Start by writing honestly about your emotions, habits, goals, and lessons each day. Simple prompts like “What did I learn today?” or “How did I grow this week?” are enough to build a meaningful journaling habit. 3. What should be on a self-improvement checklist for women? A healthy checklist includes caring for your physical health, protecting your mental well-being, strengthening your faith or values, learning something new, setting boundaries, resting, and keeping promises you make to yourself. 4. Why does healing sometimes feel slow? Because most healing happens internally before it becomes visible externally. You’re often changing long before you notice the results. 5. Will I ever completely finish healing? Healing isn’t a destination where you become perfect. It’s a lifelong process of becoming healthier, wiser, and more at peace with yourself. Growth
