8 Signs You’re Ready to Date Again

For you to be thinking about dating means you’re ready.

Okay, maybe not exactly ready, but a part of you is healed enough to consider it.

You only want to make sure you do it right this time, or maybe you’re lonely.

Whatever the case, I hope these points help you figure out if you’re ready to date again.

You Think About Your Ex Without Wanting Him Back

There was a time you felt this crushing weight whenever you thought of your ex.

You thought you could never get over him because you were invested in the relationship.

I’m sure you fantasized how many times he would come begging, so you waited up many nights waiting for a text, an apology, something that shows he still wants you.

Now you’ve gotten to the point where the occasional thought of him triggers nothing.

Nope, no feelings but pure indifference.

He is now a thing of the past. And it’s not that you hate him, you’re no longer as attached as you once were.

If anything, you can remember the good times without suddenly wanting to recreate them.

He was important, yeah, but now you know there are many fishes in the seas and you find love again.

You’re Curious About People Again

Depending on the kind of person he was, it’s easy to judge the next person through the lens of your previous relationship.

When you’re not healed, you subconsciously look for your ex in the next man because you don’t want to repeat your past experience.

Once you’re open to date again, you start seeing the next guy for who he is.

You’re curious about this person because the shadow of your ex isn’t making conclusions about the next person.

Now, the playing field is different. You’re asking questions because you want to know the man behind the handsome face.

What does he value?

How does he treat people?

What makes him laugh?

What kind of life is he building?

If you notice you’re no longer forcing connections but paying attention to the man, sis you’re ready to date again.

You’re No Longer Dating to Prove Something

I remember when one situationship with a guy I really liked ended.

I wanted to glow up so he would look back and regret leaving me.

I wanted him to be jealous so I became active online, posting new pictures of myself having fun.

He had to know he left a goldmine.🙄

Well, he never did.

If you’re doing this too, I’m not judging you. You’re only human for wanting your ex to desire you now you’re apart.

But it isn’t the best reason to start a relationship.

When you’re really ready to date again, you’re not trying to one up your ex. Instead, you’re now looking for someone you can build something real with.

And when you get with someone, you’re asking yourself if this is someone you would like to build with.

You Can Enjoy Being Single Without Feeling Like Something Is Missing

The world has confused singleness with loneliness. Those two things are as different as night and day.

Being single means you’re not married, and being lonely means you feel something is missing in your life.

Simple!

You can be single and have a rich and vibrant life. Your life is still fulfilling until a relationship arrives.

You can make plans without needing a partner.

You can travel, spend time with your friends, build your career and take yourself somewhere nice.

I believe if you have money, your single life can be extra fun. You can have a Saturday afternoon with nobody texting you and not immediately assume something is wrong.

When you enjoy your own company, dating becomes an addition to your life rather than an emergency replacement for the parts of it that feel empty.

And a woman who finds satisfaction in herself attracts a different kind of man.

She’s not clinging to someone simply because he gives you attention.

And she’s emotionally saner enough to ask if she really likes him.

You can actually ask yourself whether you like him.

Imagine that.

You Know What You Don’t Want Anymore

One of the beautiful things about heartbreak is if you take time to process it, it can make you more honest with yourself.

That relationship ending made you realize you don’t want a man who ghosts you after love-bombing you for three days.

Or you may discover you don’t want a man who insults you when you two disagree on something.

Maybe you realized chemistry without emotional maturity is exhausting.

It’s not about having 50 unrealistic requirements. Heartbreak simply taught you non-negotiables you didn’t know you needed to have.

Darling, you’re ready to date when you already enforce those standards. You already know through this article that standards are enforced with action not wants.

You Aren’t Expecting the New Person to Pay for the Old Relationship

Many unhealed people are entering relationships and ruining the next person because of their unresolved differences with their exes.

If your ex cheated, the next man shouldn’t have to prove his innocence every morning.

If your ex was emotionally unavailable, the new man shouldn’t have to spend six months convincing you that he’s not secretly preparing to disappear.

If your ex lied, it’s understandable that trust may take time.

That’s why you need to heal before you bring another person into your life.

Healing means you’re learning to distinguish between caution and punishment.

You observe someone first, ask questions and set boundaries.

It’s unfair to make an innocent person carry the emotional debt of a relationship they weren’t part of.

You only have history with your ex, not the new guy.

The next man deserves to have a chance with you without the weight of someone’s mistakes.

You Are Willing to Walk Away From the Wrong Person

This might be the most important sign.

You’re ready to date when you’re no longer afraid of losing someone to the point you abandon yourself to keep him.

We all know the beginning of dating can be intoxicating.

Someone likes you.

You like him.

The butterflies are working overtime, the conversations stay in your mind for weeks…you’re practically in the honeymoon phase.

But you start noticing red flags you could have kept quiet about because you don’t want to scare him away.

Now, you pay attention and choose to be honest about what’s not working for you.

You still care but you’re not selling yourself short anymore.

You Don’t Need Every Date to Become a Relationship

Maturity is knowing not every date will end in a relationship.

Yes, you can go on a date without fantasizing about the man as your future husband.

I get it that the basis of the date was for romantic reasons.

You want to see if you two are compatible for something long term, but you’re not letting your desire for marriage blind you from getting to know more about him.

You simply enjoy dinner, talk about sweet nothings, laugh and still find out you two share nothing in common.

Again, the idea of dating is simply to gather data on the next partner.

Sometimes the date is wonderful and becomes something more.

Other times, it’s simply a nice evening with someone you won’t see again.

Both are okay.

While these signs are valid, sometimes there’s no perfect condition that reveals you’re ready to date.

But I know how scary it is to step out in the dating pool, because rejection is real. Still, sometimes all you need is to be courageous.  Only be honest with yourself about your readiness and expectations.
